During this 3 day course, you will learn clever pattern cutting techniques
to create a soft velvet hat.
You may choose from a variety of trimming techniques. Organza's, taffetas,
jewellery and/or feathers can be used to embellish this scrumptious hat.
Your pattern may also be adapted to create linen, silk or organza hats.
Students will need to provide their own sewing machine for this course.

hat using traditional blocking and construction techniques and how to
drape and trim with velvet.
Silk & Sinamay Trimming

During this 2 day course, you will learn about fabric foundation materials
and how to use them to alter the properties and weight of silk used for
trimming. You will also learn how to drape silk fabric around the sides
of a hat, how to cover a crown and how to make silk french roses, cabochon
roses, rosettes and bows.
Sinamay needs no foundation, it is a transparent fabric which you can
use to form the hat and the trimming, creating ethereal rosettes, lilies,
feathers, spirals, leaves, bows and much more.
The Tiny Top Hat

During this 3 day course, you will have the opportunity to create a 'petite'
riding hat, combining traditional millinery and theatrical construction
techniques.
Net, flowers, beads, jewels and feathers can be used to create a delightful
19th Century headdress.
Classical Silk

During this 4 day course, you will learn the basics of couture blocking
buckram to create an elegant silk hat with a structured form to its brim.
A square crown with a tailored or draped finish presents the opportunity
to learn about other foundation and interlining fabrics.
This construction technique can also be adapted to create linen or fine
wool hats.

During this 3 day course, you will have the opportunity to make a straw
and a silk or velvet head-dress. For the silk or velvet headdress you
may choose from a variety of covering techniques, including tailored,
pleated or ruched finishes.
This course gives you the opportunity to work with foundation and interlining
fabrics, millinery net and crin (a challenging, yet dramatic and rewarding
trimming fabric).

Your hat making materials are a fine parasisal straw and a thick rustic
textured straw.

hat.
The brim will be created by the clever technique of joining 'sheet' sinamay
into bias strips (prior to blocking), to create a deep sculptured brim
that is usually difficult to achieve in this fabric.
The crown by contrast, will be traditionally blocked in a smooth parasisal
straw.
You will also have the opportunity to explore sinamay trimming techniques.
Classic Tailored Straw

parasisal straw hat using traditional blocking methods and construction
techniques.
You will also learn how to apply a rolled edge to the brim and crown,
